The Astrology of Britney Spears’ Haircut

A few weeks ago I got into a brief discussion with my girlfriend about which transits signified Britney Spears’ dramatic makeover on the night of February 16th when she suddenly left rehab after a 24 hour stint and then promptly shaved all of her own hair off at a local salon. In looking at her natal chart and the transits at the time the answer seemed pretty straightforward to me.

britney spears haircut transits 3

Britney just turned 25 in December so she is in a 2nd house profection year. One of the important profections this year within the context of the haircutting incident was her natal Mars in Virgo handing over to the Ascendant, Saturn, and Pluto in the first whole sign house in Libra. It is always problematic to have a malefic handing over to another malefic, especially when the malefic taking over is contrary to the sect in favor, as Saturn is in this nocturnal chart. The basic principle of Mars is severing or separating, and it is interesting to note that Mars is activating Saturn and Pluto in Britney’s 1st house this year, thus awakening this intense (Pluto) desire to cut away (Mars) something that she felt was stifling (Saturn) her body or appearance (1st house).

All that was needed was a couple of transits to act as triggers in order to unleash the potential that was inherent in the annual profections. On February 16th this happened when Mars conjoined her natal Venus-South Node conjunction in Capricorn. Venus is the ruler of Britney’s Libra ascendant, and thus it is one of the primary significators of her body and her outward appearance in her natal chart. A transit of Mars to the ruler of the natal ascendant is a pretty good symbol of the type of severing or cutting that is involved in shaving ones’ head completely.

The fact that it was done so suddenly, or in such a seemingly ill-conceived fashion is interesting when you remember that Mercury had just stationed retrograde in Pisces only a few days earlier. Pisces is actually one of the major signs that is activated this year by annual profection since it is the sign that her sect light (the Moon) hands over to, so it is not surprising that some of her troubles have featured so prominently in the news lately, specifically during the Mercury retrograde period. If this isn’t some form of Mercury retrograde hijinx then I don’t know what is.
