I noticed this story several months back on some of the celebrity gossip sites where Eddie Murphy was denying claims made by his ex-girlfriend Melanie Brown (aka Scary Spice, aka Mel B; she used to be in that group The Spice Girls in the 90’s), that he was the father of her soon to be born daughter. Apparently in December he was caught denying claims that he had denied that he was the father in the first place. Later Murphy started openly denying the claim that he was the father of Mel B’s baby, and eventually she took him to court and the judge ordered him to take a paternity test, which he just underwent yesterday (June 12th). I wasn’t terribly interested in this story until just tonight when TMZ posted an article with the baby’s birth certificate, which contained an accurate birth time. So we have an accurate birth chart for both the baby and the alleged father.

Presumably if Eddie Murphy is the father then we would expect to see some pretty close synastry contacts between his chart and the baby’s, as you often do in the charts of family members. So the best way to do this analysis is just to cast a synastry chart with both of their natal charts superimposed on one another.

General points:

• First off, no, that is not a typo. The baby was actually born on the exact same day as Eddie Murphy. They share the same birthday, and thus the Sun is at the same degree of the zodiac for both individuals. That in it of itself is kind of suspicious, if not damning from an astrological perspective, although certainly not quite enough evidence to be conclusive.
• The two also share almost exactly the same placements of Mercury in 18/19 Pisces as well. Thats strike two, although still, not terribly convincing.
• While the Sun is often seen as the general significator of the father in a native’s chart, in a night chart we would also want to look at Saturn since it is often used as the significator of the father in nocturnal charts such as this one. We find Saturn in Leo, retrograde, contrary to the sect, and opposite to Mars and Neptune. I would say that this is a pretty apt description of this native’s situation with the father, whoever that is, and the whole mystery surrounding the affair at this point. Notice that the Saturn-Neptune opposition in Angel’s chart lies very close to Eddie’s ascendant/descendant axis. That is to say, one of the signifcators of the father in her chart is right on Eddie’s ascendant, while Neptune, the planet that usually has to do with confusion and deception is right on his descendant.
• Angel’s 4th house only contains her natal Mercury-Uranus-North Node conjunction, and Eddie’s Mercury and Lot of Fortune, although the ruler of the 4th, Jupiter is strongly positioned in the ascendant and in its own sign Sagittarius.
• The ruler of the whole sign 4th house is Jupiter, but the IC actually falls in Aries, and its ruler, Mars, is over in Aquarius conjunct Neptune. This is reemphasizing the Neptune themes in Angel’s chart, as well as the opposition with Saturn on Eddie’s ascendant/descendant axis.
• Eddie’s ascendant is in Leo, and thus his 5th whole sign house, the house of children, is Sagittarius. In this sign we find Angel’s ascendant, as well as the ruler of her ascendant Jupiter. So the baby has her ascendant and the ruler of her ascendant in Eddie’s 5th house of children.
• According to Dorotheus of Sidon and Paulus Alexandrinus the calculation for the Lot of the Father is ascendant + Sun – Saturn. In Angel’s chart the Lot of the Father falls out at 10 degrees of Leo, right in Eddie’s 1st whole sign house, not far from his ascendant.
• According to the same authors the Lot of Children is ascendant + Saturn – Jupiter. In Eddie’s chart the Lot of Children falls out at 12 Leo, conjunct Angel’s Lot of the Father, and not far from her natal Saturn.
• In Hellenistic astrology both the 10th and the 11th houses are associated with children, in addition to the 5th. The 10th because it is the place of ‘what one does’, and the 11th because it is opposite to the 5th. It is interesting to note that last year when Mel B got pregnant that Eddie was in a 10th house profection year, and then on the day that Angel was born he switched into an 11th house profection year. Additionally, Gemini is the 11th whole sign house in his chart, and the ruler of that sign, Mercury, is just days away from stationing retrograde in Cancer. Interesting coincidence that he just took the paternity test yesterday, no?

There is a lot more to this analysis that I could say, and I probably could have done a better job of explaining some of the above points and going into a bit more detail, but it is almost 3:30 in the morning at this point and I just wanted to make a quick post about this case because it struck me as being kind of interesting since we have birth data for two of the main people involved.

From the looks of things with respect to the astrology of the situation it does appear that Eddie Murphy is the father of Melanie Brown’s baby, Angel-Iris. It should be interesting to see what happens over the course of the next few weeks during the Mercury retrograde once the results of the paternity test come back and this is proven to be the case.

If Eddie’s birth time is accurate and his ascendant is somewhere in mid-Leo then the Venus retrograde this summer will be impacting his chart pretty significantly, and we may see this story being dragged out over the course of the summer. Since Angel’s Saturn is at 18 Leo we might want to pay particular attention to the Venus stations and its transits through Leo, especially in August and September.

Hopefully everything will work out for the best in the end.

Update: TMZ is now reporting as of today, June 22nd, that

Eddie Murphy is definitely the daddy of Scary Spice’s 2-month-old baby, according to a DNA test that the singer just received, and a source who has seen the actual test tells TMZ that it “leaves no doubt” that Eddie’s the dad.

Murphy’s reps aren’t commenting at this point though, so we may have to wait a bit until this is “officially” confirmed, but I think that we can safely say that this prediction was accurate at this point.
