What’s Going On In The Astrology-Blogosphere

Posted by on December 7, 2008 at 5:12 pmOne Comment

This is a new column I’m going to write every once in a while called ‘What’s Going On In the Astrology-Blogosphere?‘  The purpose is to highlight some interesting posts that I’ve come across on different astrology blogs recently, along with a little bit of commentary.

It is not really meant to be comprehensive, and I’m sure that there are a lot of great articles that will be left out simply because I haven’t seen them yet.  Hopefully it will help to showcase what different bloggers have been talking about recently though.   If you happen to find an article of interest then please post the link in the comments section below.

So, let’s get started.

Astro-blogging goddess Nina Gryphon has been posting a lot of  great articles and book reviews lately on the Gryphon Astrology Blog, and she recently interviewed two of my favorite astrologers, James Holden and Ben Dykes.  Holden wrote what is currently the best book on the market for the history of astrology, A History of Horoscopic Astrology, and Dykes is quickly becoming one of the leading Medieval astrologers in the world due to his recent translations of Guido Bonatti, Sahl ibn Bishr and Masha’allah.  The interviews on Nina’s site give us a rare glimpse into the minds of two of the astrological community’s leading figures at the present time.

Aaron Brody over at Antiquus Astrology recently wrote an interesting article on criticisms of astrology, where he points out that skeptics of astrology seldom take the time to familiarize themselves with the subject before dismissing or attacking it. He argues that the only people who have any business critiquing astrology are astrologers themselves, or at least those who have studied the subject in-depth.   Of course, I’m in full agreement, as I’ve seen the types of ridiculous mistakes and mistaken assumptions that skeptics tend to make when they have only a shallow understanding of astrology.

Up-and-coming astrology blogger Ryoin Akiyama and his friends have been posting some really detailed articles on his blog Starlight Knight covering various traditional astrological techniques such as finding the ruler of the chart, aspect theory, and the meaning of the houses.  Keep an eye out for this guy, as he seems to have a pretty bright future in the field ahead of him, and I think that we will be hearing his name a lot more in the coming years.

Lynn Hayes’ Astrological Musings blog got incorporated into Beliefnet a few months ago, and she was recently chosen by Blogs.com to pick the top 10 astrology blogs out there today.  Congratulations to Lynn for her recent success!

Christine Nuwayser Davis over at the Ask Christine Astrology blog has been writing some awesome articles on horary since she started her site earlier this year, and she actually has some pretty sage advice from time to time as well, such as her reminder (or admonition?) that astrologers need to be extremely careful about what they say to clients during the course of a consultation.  I couldn’t agree more.

Elsa Panizzon and Jeffrey Kishner’s astrology blog aggregators over at Astro Dispatch and Astrology Blogger seem to be getting more and more popular, with tons of new articles showing up  each day, and they are both doing a fantastic job of keeping them up-to-date with all of the latest astrology blogs and articles.   There is even a new aggregator that showed up recently over at Alltop.

That’s all for this update for now, although I will try to make this more of a regular feature in the future, so stay tuned for more coverage on what’s going on in astrology-blogosphere soon.
