Hard Venus-Pluto Aspects in Relationships

Posted by on August 29, 2009 at 11:33 pm9 Comments

I was reading some random blogs tonight when I came across a video that provides a pretty compelling illustration of what hard aspects between Venus and Pluto are like in relationships.  By hard aspects I mean the conjunction, square and especially the opposition.

Such a configuration is usually most relevant in a relationship when it is in one person’s natal chart and is prominently placed in the synastry or composite charts.  The potential of the configuration then becomes activated and certain incidences tend to occur when it is hit by a particular transit.

I’m not going to go into a whole spiel on Venus-Pluto configurations here.  Just watch the video and take something from it about the more problematic ways in which such a placement can sometimes play out.

The premise of the video is that this guy went out of the country for a couple of weeks and told his girlfriend, but when she forgot that he had told her about his plans and got the impression that he was blowing her off, she proceeded to freak out.  The video is largely just him documenting what happened, and the result is both hilarious and instructive.  Enjoy.

.

.

His point at the end is probably the most useful take home lesson for this configuration:

“Careful when you date passionate people, because passion swings both ways.”

In other words, Venus-Pluto configurations can create rather intense, passionate relationships, but this intensity has both its good sides and its bad sides.  Generally speaking, the more positive sides tend to come out with the trine and sextile between Venus and Pluto, whereas the more difficult ones tend to come out with the square and opposition.  The conjunction can really swing either way, although it depends on the sign placement and configuration with other planets.

That’s all for now.  More updates coming soon.

    Scary video!

    Definitely Pluto-Venus!

The date this gentlemen left, the Moon was in Sagittarius, and the last aspect the Moon made before leaving the sign was a conjunction to Pluto. Of course, in Medieval astrology, the last aspect the Moon makes tends to show the outcome of the event. And because the last aspect the Moon made before leaving for his trip was a conjunction to its ruler, Jupiter in Sagittarius, we see how the situation changed from good to bad.

I’d like to point out the idea in modern astrology that Pluto is the higher octave of the planet Mars, (of which I do agree), and this can be applied to Abu Mashar’s Astrological Metaphors in the following way. He says,

“When Venus is with Mars it is similar to a woman who searches for pleasure and who joins a man that is perverse and is a whore-monger. She is afraid him; flatters him and she has a loving attitude towards him and shows affection to him. However these things are superficial, she does them out of fear.”

Thusly with Pluto in place of Mars, we could amplify this and say,

“When Venus is with Pluto it is similar to a woman who is compelled by her most primitive urges, as if she were ready to die and must search to the ends of the earth to have intercourse with a decent man that she may keep her seed in existence. She is completely terrified by the power breeding inside her, and frequently she plunges to the depths of despair, but also ecstasy. And if a decent man was out of reach then she would find fit a lowly man, and further despair.”

As I post this, Pluto rises !

You said this woman was your girlfriend? You dont have any phone access in your Europe? What about emergencies? It doesnt seem realistic- sorry-maybe you just started dating her.

  • Chris Brennan says:

No, the video was made by someone else about their relationship.

  • Kristina says:

So how about Venus conjunct mars, square Pluto conjunct moon? Pluto
moon in the 12 house conjunct asc. Woman. Am I doomed!?!

  • Chris Brennan says:

It depends on the rest of the chart… but, yep, pretty much. Doomed.

  • Kristina says:

Ha! Good thing I’m a Taurus:) Pluto in my experience has been about sweeping changes.
Turmoil uprooting. But the outcome is always a new healthier existence.

  • Kristina says:

You know, I never have watched this video…

  • Kristina says:

    Ok, just watched it. Haha!

  • barb says:

That was absolutely hilarious!!! I’ve just met someone and my Pluto squares all of his 5 Gemini planets…including his Venus. Yikes.
